Customer Review: Fan-Tastic Football Follies
I bought this product for my husband for Christmas and he Absolutely Loved it. I heard him in the living room cracking up as he watched it. He was very satisfied with the product and we would highly recommend it to anyone who is a football fan, or anyone who just enjoys a good laugh.

Traditional Driving Block

Simple drives are important for linemen to practice and perfect. The drive block is the most fundamental and should be practiced often. This drive block means that you are going to push the opponent in the direction that they are aligned. It starts with the lineup, when you are facing your opponent notice which way they are aligned, if they are off to the right then you will drive them to the right if the play is occurring on the left side of the field. Execute the drive by bolting off the line with your play side foot; again if the play is happening on the left side then you will use your left foot. Connect hard against your opponent, bring your other foot into play and continue to drive in the aligned direction.

Proper Catching Leads to Great Ball Security

To insure a proper catch, a receiver must secure the football into a proper carrying position. The points of a proper catch are: First, opening up your hands with an open triangle. Second, follow the ball with your eyes from the first time you see it in the air until it is securely placed in a tight hold. Third, secure the ball tight and high against your ribs, forearm, and biceps. Many receivers can get into a bad habit of looking away from the ball before it is stored away properly. Taking your eye off the ball increases incomplete passes, fumbles, and turnovers. In order to increase catching and ball security effectiveness have two receivers pass to each other, when one of them catches the ball make sure that they slow the motion down pausing when they catch, follow through, and secure the football.

Conditioning Drill: Up Downs

Up downs is an excellent conditioning drill that will improve reaction time and endurance. This drill consists of having players run in place as fast and as hard as they can. From time to time the coach will signal to the players, by whistle or a command, to get down - meaning that they drop down do a push up and get back up as quickly as possible to run again. As up downs require endurance and strength, players are encouraged to start in slow short burst and work up to longer and more intense sessions.

A great Handoff Drill

Running backs should constantly practice the hand off. This drill requires more than one player; it starts off with two lines, line A and line B, the front of each line facing each other a couple of yards apart. At the coaches signal player A leaves line A running with the football towards line B. At the same time a player leaves line B, and when they meet in the middle Player A hands off the ball to Player B. Now player B has the ball and will hand off the ball to the next person in Line A who will hand off to the next player in Line B. This drill should perform in a seamless motion. Practice this drill every day to ensure that your running backs are effective on their hand offs.

NFL Americas Game: Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl IX

It was perhaps the finest collection of talent in NFL history - and in 1974 nearly no one knew it. For five seasons, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Chuck Noll had meticulously built the team in his own image - tough and physical. In 1974, he added a draft class that included four future Hall of Famers. By the postseason, the team that would become the decade's best was ready to arrive. The Steelers rose to the top of the football world by upsetting the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IX. It would be the first of four world championships in six years. Join NFL Films as they retell the story of the '74 Steelers. America's Game uses exclusive interviews from Andy Russell, Franco Harris, and "Mean" Joe Greene to recount Pittsburgh's rise from obscurity to dynasty.

Its hard to say with the cheapest tickets going for almost $200 that those people got their money's worth. They did get it, if you can put a price on awe-inspiring football. Some people are calling this #1 OU vs #5 Texas the greatest game they have ever seen. I still think the OU vs Boise State bowl game 2 years back was better because of all the trick plays plus the amazing comeback.

Texas started out looking like they were in trouble in the first half. They were trailing for the most part and couldn't score at will like the Sooners seemed to be. The play that kept their morale strong was when Jordan Shipley returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. That sparked the team to keep their heads up and keep fighting.

Their were plenty of crazy plays such as when in the first half a ball was tipped from one receiver to his teammate receiver in the end zone. Also OU was just short of the goal line when they scored their first touchdown, but the refs called it a touchdown anyway. It was on a third down and Texas could have held them to a field goal if it weren't for that.

The Sooners and Longhorns could not seem to get the ground game running for most of the game. OU averaged 1.8 yards a carry while Texas had 4.6 in the game. This was in part to Texas Running Back Chris Ogbonnaya busting a big 62 yard run just short of the end zone.

This was definitely a passing fan's game. There was over 664 yards passing between these sworn rivals. Texas kept trying to establish the run and it almost cost them the gain. Both teams seemed to give up on the run by the fourth quarter.

The amazing thing was that Sam Bradford of OU had 5 touchdowns and 387 yards passing. Two interceptions tainted his stats slightly. But it must be depressing to work that hard and come up short of a victory. You almost had a sense if their were ties this should have been one of them.

This game is going to be an instant classic viewed over and over. It had two Heisman caliber quarterbacks and two teams ranked in the top 5 from the same conference. I doubt I will see a better game this year in college football. It was high scoring and hard hitting with plenty of trick plays and fake punts by Coach Stoops. It had something for everyone, and then some.

NFL Americas Game: Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl XIV

By the fall of 1979, Pittsburgh was known as the "City of Champions." That October, the Pirates defeated the Baltimore Orioles to win the World Series, their second championship of the decade. Meanwhile, the Steelers had constructed a dynasty, boasting three world titles over the past five years. The fan base no longer hoped for victories. Now they expected them. So the standards were high for the '79 Steelers. But every player on the team was confident it could meet them. "Once you have the taste of victory, it's awful hard to give that up," recalled John Banaszak. "The attitude was: We're going to win this every year." Banaszak was one of several lesser-known Steelers who played a prominent role that year due to injuries. Joe Greene, Jack Ham, Franco Harris and Lynn Swann, all future Hall of Famers, were lost for parts of the season. But their backups capably filled in the gaps, and the Steelers went 12-4 during the regular season en route to a win over the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl XIV. So join NFL Films as they retell the story of the '79 Steelers. America's Game uses exclusive interviews from Banaszak, John Stallworth and L.C. Greenwood to recount the finale of Pittsburgh's world championship run.

Dehydration is an enemy to football success

Dehydration should never appear on the football field if both the players and coaches have good habits. Each athlete should bring or have a water bottle provided, and they need to use it often. Water should never be used as a motivational or reward type basis. Keeping everyone happy and hydrated will go a long way to a successful practice.

The importance of learning the Playbook

Practicing the plays is fun, and also very important. When you master your part of the play it will strengthen your team and yourself. Rule number one in starting out a new play is following your coaches instructions. As you start to practice the play make sure to slow it down, there is no sense in practicing errors. Remember that if you need help, you should ask for it. At times we have seen a player fail to advance or refine their techniques because they don't ask for added assistance. Don't let this happen to you Are you done with the play after practice? No way! One thing that you can do after practice is visualize your plays. Sleep on them, and you will learn them twice as fast.

Football tackling 101

Tackling is fundamental to football, and should receive proper attention at practices. Tackling can be fun and exhilarating, but done improperly and it can be dangerous. Some points to remember when tackling:

First, plant yourself in front of your opponent. Plant your cleats in the grass squarely in front and in the middle, bisecting the player in half. Also, at this time thrust your arms backward to prepare for the next step.

Second, thrust your other foot again squarely in front of your opponent and with all the momentum that you have brought to the tackle grab your opponent. At this point you are well planted in front and your head should be in direct contact. The one golden rule in making a safe tackle is to never, ever lead with or try to tackle with the crown of your head. Tell yourself, or your players to imagine that they are biting the football.

The third and last step is to bring your hips up and drive the opponent backwards and towards the ground. The squarer you are in the first step the easier it will be to perform the third step.

Catching the ball low

Making the plays means that you have practiced the less than optimal situation and know how to react to them. One situation that happens a lot in a game is catching the low passes. Here are some great techniques in coaching and learning the low catch. First, keep your hands down low in a scooping or shovel position; you can even cross your pinkies. First, keep your hands low and lock your pinkies. Locking your pinkies prevents the football from falling through your hands. Third, once the ball touches your hands scoop it up into your chest and tuck it away into a secure position. Third, once you have caught the ball, tuck it away as soon as possible. Always watch the ball through from the first time you see it in the air until it is in a secure ball carrying position. Last, concentrate on catching it first and then worry about the defense, and scoring some more yards.

Led by head coach Tom Flores, the 1983 Los Angeles Raiders entered Super Bowl XVIII as underdogs. Interviews with Marcus Allen, Todd Christensen and Howie Long take you inside all of the action of one of the greatest teams in NFL history. Al Davis summed up Super Bowl XVIII perfectly: "Not only in my opinion are you the greatest Raider team of all-time, I think you rank with the great teams of all time that have ever played any professional sport. Produced by the Emmy Award winning team at NFL Films, America's Game is a must-see for any NFL fan.

It's easy to pick the Giants, Cowboys, Patriots, or Colts. I am sure they won't all falter this year and some upcoming teams are ready to challenge. The NFL powerhouses are due for a fall. After all, the Giants had a second place division finish and made the predictable - unpredictable again. You have to love the chances of the Vikings, Saints, Bills, Browns, Jaguars, and Raiders. They will be the most improved teams who could challenge for it all.

2008 National Football Conference

NFC EAST

Dallas - Runs away from this division. Runs all the way to the Conference final. Romo falls for Vikings cheerleader who spikes Vikes Gatorade with Ex-Lax.

NY Giants - Sometimes everything falls into place. This year they will struggle to be a Wild Card and then it's all over for repeating.

Washington - Improved team, Enough to beat the Giants in the Wild Card game.

Philadelphia - Just don't have all the pieces in place.

NFC NORTH

Minnesota - Purple offensive monsters crush Dallas in the Conference final for a Super Bowl birth. Ex Lax makes them run faster.

Green Bay - Good all around strength but not good enough this year.

Detroit - How can a team go on and on without a quality quarterback?

Chicago - How can a team go on and on without a quality quarterback?

NFC SOUTH

New Orleans - Will be more consistent this year. Brees has a great year and defense picks it up a notch.

Carolina - Too much expectation and not consistent enough.

Tampa Bay - Boring. Boring. Boring.

Atlanta - Do they send the rejects here or are they created here?

NFC WEST

Seattle - Very well-rounded team. Could go all the way.

Arizona - Please change the name of the team to the Desert Rams.

St. Louis - Please change the name of the team to the Cardinals.

San Francisco - Please change the team.

2008 American Football Conference

AFC EAST

New England - Easy schedule poor training for playoffs. Bill Belichick is hung in effigy after Pats get bumped out by Jags.

Buffalo - Young defense gets monster-like. Will lose the Conference final to the Jags breaking the hearts of Buffalo fans again.

NY Jets - Not Brets fault but Farve gets carved with hapless Jets. Fans want everyone fired or executed.

Miami - The Tuna, the Dolphins, Ricky Williams. This is a very cheap version of a junior Cowboy team. Can somebody spell
Q u a r t e r b a c k?

AFC NORTH

Cleveland - A year away from going all the way. They should watch old Browns black and white movies with Carlings Black Label commercials. Fake like they are hurt and kill guys like Jim Brown did.

Pittsburgh - Can look great - and then very average. Browns overtake them.

Cincinnati - Carson Palmer should demand a trade. Great talent on overrated team.

Baltimore - Locker room poison begins to flourish. Good team - no chemistry.

AFC SOUTH

Jacksonville - Defensive monsters go all the way to Conference Final.

Indianapolis - Not enough Marvin Harrison or Defense. Payton bring them back - next year.

Tennessee - Good team with ugly uniforms. Should watch old John Hadl Charger films. No passing - no playoffs.

Houston - Improved defense and team with very cool uniforms gets steadily better but not good enough yet.

AFC WEST

San Diego - Look for a little losing streak to start the finger pointing.

Oakland - Everyone will hate them. Except the Raider Nation. Now if they only had Lamonica.

Denver - Continues to dive. Jay Cutler would take Green Bay a long way but not this team.

Kansas City - Abner Haynes returns. These are not the Super Chiefs.

AFC - Jacksonville over Buffalo - as Bills miss controversial two point conversion to win it. Fans destroy Wilson stadium forcing the Bills to become the Toronto Maple Leafs.

NFC - Vikings over Cowboys - in a romp. Cowboys immediately trade Romo to the Dolphins for the Tuna. Jerry Jones gets face lift and now looks like Joan Rivers. Little Bum Phillips is elected coach of the year for putting up with more crap than any coach in history.

Super Bowl -Halftime show is Michael Phelps swimming 14 consecutive 200m swims across Tampa Stadium. Raiders Al Davis signs him as a tight end.
Tarvaris Jackson is injured as time winds down with the Jags up on the Vikes by 6. Gus Frerotte leads game ending drive as the Minnesota Vikings win the Super Bowl. Adrian Peterson gains 200 yds. with 3 TD's to become MVP.

Are you a Florida State Seminoles fan? While Florida State has excelled in several sports, its football team in particular has become renowned. During its history, the football squad has won roughly two-thirds of all of its games, has won or tied 22 of 35 Bowl games, and has earned two national championships (1993, 1999). However, here are some lesser-known facts about the football program at Florida State:

1. Florida State was once West Florida Seminary

Football at West Florida Seminary started at 1899 (or earlier). Then in 1901, the school became Florida State College. The college won its first football state championship in 1904. Then in 1905, the school became a women's college: The Florida State College for Women. Following the end of World War II, Florida's university system experienced a rearrangement. For the first time since 1905, the newly-named Florida State University admitted men. Along with men, football returned to the university!

2. In 1995 and 1998 the Seminoles were co-conference champions

About 99.9% of Seminoles fans know that their favorite team has won two national championships: in 1993, and 1999. In 1993, Florida finished out the season with a 12-1 record (they lost to Notre Dame 31-24). Then in 1999, Florida earned a flawless 12-0 record.

In addition to their pair of national championships, Florida State has also won Dixie or ACC conference titles, 15 times (they were co-champions in 1995 and 1998). Except for 2005, when their final conference record was 5-3, the Seminoles lost a maximum of one conference game, during their other 14 division championship seasons.

3. FSU has played to two ties in Bowl games

Throughout its history, Florida State has an overall Bowl record of 20-13-2. The first tie was in the Gator Bowl (1967), against Penn State (17-17). Then in 1984, FSU would tie Georgia in the Citrus Bowl-by the same score: 17-17! Furthermore, FSU has never lost in a Gator Bowl, earning a total 5-0-1 record. Interestingly, Florida State has twice clashed with its intrastate rival, the Florida Gators, in Bowl games. In 1995, FSU defeated Florida 23-17 in the Sugar Bowl. However, in 1997, Florida had its revenge in the same Bowl game-dismantling FSU, 52-20.

4. Ed Williamson is the only Seminoles head coach never to win a game

NCAA fans would probably not be surprised to learn that Bobby Bowden has had a higher winning percentage than any other Seminoles coach in the school's history has had. He has won roughly three-fourths of all his coached games. Meanwhile, Ed Williamson has the worst winning percentage: .000. Florida State won zero of five games under Williamson. Understandably, the Seminoles coach during the next season was NOT Williamson.

Throughout its history, Florida State University has produced numerous quality teams and players. Heisman Trophy winners Charlie Ward (1993) and Chris Weinke (2000) helped to lead FSU to their national championships. Who will be the next FSU all-star? Use Florida State Seminoles merchandise to cheer on FSU to a third national championship!

Trick Shift Play Backfires in Big Time College Football

Many youth football coaches are "football junkies". We like watching pro or college football. Sometimes we even see things that we think we can use for our own youth football teams. Often times this is how youth coaches come up with trick plays.

College Bowl Game SNAFU

One trick play used in this Bowl season was during the Sugar Bowl, Alabama versus Utah. Utah faced a 4th Down and short near midfield.

Utah decided to "go" for it with a play that is designed to draw the defense off-sides. This was a pretty safe and savy strategy, you are either going to get 5 free yards and a first down or you are going to take a delay of game penalty and punt on 4th down. Punting from the 45 instead of the 50 even gives your punter more room to pin Bama deep inside it's 20 yard line. No matter how the play turned out, the Utes will have improved thier situation.

I'm not sure why more teams don't try this very safe tactic which often yields teams a free first down with zero risk, even at the college level. Utah started out with it's offensive linemen in very wide splits and in two-point stances and Quarterback under center. After the players had been set for at least a second, Utah then moved in unison, with the offensive linemen moving inward together to narrow the splits and the Quarterback backpedalling to a shotgun formation.

The Ruling

While the play did result in Bama jumping off-sides, the Utes were called for a 5 yard penalty for "illegally simulating the start of the play" a 5 yard penalty. The officials got it right on this one. While you can try to get teams to jump off-sides via varying cadence, players can not shift quickly in such a manner that simulates the start of a play.

We use a very legal "no play" in these situations with great success. We usually run it 2-5 times a game to get teams to jump at significant times during a game, when we want to call timeout or even when we just want teams to stop jumping or anticipating our snap count. Our success rate of getting teams to jump offsides over the last 11 seasons has always been between 70%-90%. It is a great but under used strategy in youth football.

The rule invoked in the Utah-Alabama game is why many teams that shift, do so slowly and deliberately. That is why teams that run Jet Sweep type motion plays often have their motion man take a slow deliberate drop step before he starts his full speed motion towards the quarterback.

Here is a clip of the Utah-Alabama play in action: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KB5yNZVYV3U

What Does This Mean for Youth Football Teams?

The moral of the story is, this is a great strategy and a perfect situation to run a play like this, however it was just poor play designing on the part of Utah. This coach should have known better. Now you know better, don't make the same mistake Utah did. Of course let's give Utah a break over the "body of work", they played a very brilliant and inspired game.

Dallas Cowboys - Logo Soft Lunch Box NFL Pro Football

You might disagree, but hear me out on this... as an ex-college football player and currently as a strength coach, I have found the utilization and teaching of Olympic lifts to be tedious, inefficient and down-right boring.

As a college athlete I hardly found the patience to learn the correct lifting technique for the power clean. Although I held the St. John's University power clean record my freshman season, muscling 335 lbs. (152 kg) off the platform - my technique was completely flawed and the attempt looked more like an Axle C&P in Strongman than the smooth pull of an Olympic Weightlifter.

After undergrad I studied Exercise Science at the graduate level. The director of the Masters program was an avid Olympic Weightlifting coach and ex-competitor. He spent hours with the students teaching us the finer points and intricacies of how to perform a proper Clean & Jerk. Once we were proficient enough at performing these lifts we were granted permission to then coach the university's athletes on how to use these lifts to better their sports performance.

I remember the very first day that I was given the "OK" to start coaching the athletes; I was assigned to the football team. Since I had been a former college football player myself, I felt that I would instantly be greeted with fellowship and amity. This was NOT the case! In fact, there were a few of the kids who hated the fact that I was there. I sensed their apprehension in allowing me to coach them, and they especially hated it when I taught them how to Olympic lift.

As it happened, many of the more "meat head-ish" type football players confided in me that they wanted to, "lift heavier weights and stop wasting time with this BS." It turned out, it was during the off-season prior to my debut that these athletes were first exposed to the technicalities of OL. It was also the first time that they were coached in the weight room by graduate students instead of their sports coach. They have previously been using a power lifting model that yielded great size and strength gains.

I do believe that including power cleans and other Olympic lifts into a Strength and Conditioning Program for football players is beneficial. But, I also believe that - the less an athlete has to "think" about a movement, the more ATTITUDE he can bring to its accomplishment. Also, I am a big advocate for saving time. I hate nothing more than "getting things RIGHT before getting them going". It is a personal philosophy of mine that 'success is more a product of attitude... than of technique' (granted, that you're not taking foolish risks and causing injury).

Consider for a moment - when you are coaching a player on the Kick-Off Team do you tell him...

"Look Johnny, you've gotta sprint down there with your elbows at a 90 degree angle, your jaw relaxed, hands in a loose fist and be sure to breathe through pursed lips. Now, when you get to the first blocker take a short inhalation and hold your breath, brace your abdominals and furrow your brow and your dip your hips, lower your shoulder and explode though him by extending your ankles, knees and hips in a simultaneous manner."

If this sounds crazy to you, consider that this is the way that Olympic lifts are typically taught. Instead of letting the athlete "do his thing", we spend hours 'breaking down' and analyzing the movement for them. These valuable hours spent "teaching" could very well be used for building real strength and speed in a timely fashion.

In the same manner that you coach your athletes to go "balls to the wall" on the football field, you can coach them to go "balls to the wall" in the weight room as well. Also, besides getting bigger, faster and stronger by training like a maniac, these kids will then bring this type of ATTITUDE to the field more often. Like they say, "you play the way you practice."

Training in the weight room should be just as intense and as fun as training on the field. When athletes learn to "attack" an exercise in the gym like they attack a tackling dummy, they will develop size, strength, speed and, ATTITUDE faster than ever before. Also, for weight training to become a REAL part of your schools program, you've got to promote it as a benefit of being on the team, not just a necessity. I remember looking at a few small colleges when I graduated high school and one of the most important questions I asked was, "what kind of strength and conditioning program do you have?"

So, what the heck do you do if Olympic Lifts are not working?

Train like the World's Strongest Men! Not only are Strongmen great examples of brute strength, they are also well conditioned, and possess great speed and power. Strongman exercises build functional strength, speed, power and most importantly ATTITUDE! Besides the performance benefits of flipping tires and loading sandbags, Strongman training is FUN and easy to teach.

In Part 2 I will give you my list of the best Strongman Exercises for building explosive strength, speed , size and attitude.

Who the heck is Elliott Hulse?

There are many reasons why young students dream of joining the football varsity team. One is because they love the sport and dream of playing for the National Football League someday. Others find it as a tool to enhance their self-esteem. While there are those, who want to keep the family pride alive.

Whatever reason you have, remember that it is not easy. Trying out for the football team is not a wall in the park. There is more to it than training hard as well. The challenge does not end after you make the team. You have to be careful while being aggressive. In addition to that, you have to focus on important things too.

Getting Started

It is different when you are one of the audiences, cheering for a team. You are not wearing the NFL helmet to protect your head during the tackle. You wear it in support of the team you are rooting for. If you want to be part of the team, make sure you wear the right gear for the team.

Unlike basketball, you wear more than just the uniforms, socks, and appropriate shoes. In football, you will need pads, under armor, athletic tape, cleats, gloves, helmets, and face masks. Wearing the complete protective gear will help you walk out of the playing field unharmed. You have to wear them even if you are just practicing with teammates. Keep in mind that you do not want to miss a game because of an injury during a practice game.

Additional Preparations

You should also do additional preparations. Trainings and practices will help enhance your abilities. However, you have to watch out for your health as well. You need loads of carbohydrates before every game. You need it to keep you energized. Eating well is important but you should also consider the time. You cannot eat and play. You should be able to include that in your schedule.

It is also important that you be fit physically. Exercise is very important. You have to pump up your blood and stretch your muscles before you get physical with your teammates. It is important to pay attention to what your coach tells you. If he asks you to run, run. He surely knows better than most of the players do.

Before playing

When headed for a game, you have to be ready. It is important that you reach the venue early. This will give you chance to warm up better. Organize your things and wear the necessary pads. Do not forget to have your ankles taped as well.

See to it that you wear the needed gear. The pros never forget their NFL helmets and you should not too.

If you want to join the National Football League someday, you have to start living the life of a football player today. Manage your time well. You have to achieve balance between school and the sport. You have to be up for the challenge as well. You need to have time for home works, practices, family, friends, and food. For a student, that is not easy to manage.

So where to start?

Just follow these five steps and you're on your way.

1. This may seem obvious, but how about watching some games? Maybe you have already, maybe not. The more you watch, the more information you'll absorb. When watching a game on TV, pay close attention to what the commentators are saying. If you don't understand something (and chances are you won't if you're just starting out), jot it down. Then look it up on the internet; or in books, etc. Believe me, you won't have any problems finding information on football.

2. Ask questions - to someone who already knows football. It can be a friend, a spouse, a family member, etc. It doesn't matter. One word of advice: DO NOT ask someone a question when the game is going on. You will soon find out that when a seasoned veteran is watching a game, (s)he is in a "zone" and can't be bothered. Wait until the game is over.

3. Read, read, read. There is a TON of information on football everywhere; on the internet, in newspapers, books, magazines, etc.

4. Form a "Support Group" and watch the games together. Beginner only, of course. Bounce ideas off each another; ask each other questions, etc. Remember, there is safety in numbers.

5. Most of all, be patient! It isn't going to happen overnight. Like anything else, it takes time, but in the end, it will all be worth it.

Learning football is like doing a jigsaw puzzle. It's just a matter of putting all the pieces together. If you need assistance, please visit learnprofootball.com

Chiefs Report 1998 Football Guide (Only newspaper devoted exclusiely to KC Chiefs and NFL)

Chiefs 'D' - Back on the attack in '98'Air-Marty' - Vertical game gets green light this seasonRosterScheduleStatisticsMuch more...

For as long as I can remember, there's been an adjustment period for running backs as they come into the NFL. No matter how highly touted a running back prospect was, their first year was spent on the bench and in blocking situations to learn the ropes. Whether it's due to increasingly more pro-style offenses in college or simply coaches being more willing to let rookies spread their wings, there has clearly been an increase this year in rookie running back productivity. 3 rookies (Chris Johnson, Steve Slaton, and Matt Forte) rank among the top 15 yardage leaders in the NFL, with several others Tim Hightower, Jonathan Stewart, Darren McFadden, Felix Jones) falling in shortly behind, while each showing flashes of brilliance early.

All of the above mentioned running backs are part of a 2-back tandem except for Matt Forte, and that makes Forte an intriguing prospect. As a rookie, Forte is proving a capable feature back on a team that enters its bye week tied for the division lead. Forte has received 20 or more carries in all but two of the Bears games this season, and currently ranks 4th among all running backs in the NFL with 147 carries. He came into an extremely advantageous situation in Chicago, who had recently been disillusioned by Cedric Benson's lackluster attempt at power running game. Forte has a consistent running style (he has 0 fumbles all season) that fits well into Chicago's possession-based style of offense, and he has taken full advantage of his opportunities as a rookie starter.

Steve Slayton, on the other hand, earned his touches due to injuries to Ahman Green. He wasted little time showing the Texans that was a weapon to be utilized even when Green is healthy. Nicknamed "The Slasher" for his quick cuts and slashing play-style, Slayton also has proven himself to be a capable target out of the backfield, even while the Texans have been losing games. He has scored a touchdown in all but two of the Texans games, including the games he had to split time with Green in. Slayton has all the components to be a terrific positional player as a finesse back in a two-back system, and if the Texans could find a better compliment than Green, it could be one of the most dominant backfields in the NFL.

Speaking of the most dominant backfield on the NFL, another rookie, Chris Johnson, can boast that he is a part of it. Johnson and LenDale White (the NFL's touchdown leader) have formed a tandem so potent that it has carried the Titans to an undefeated record despite the loss of Vince Young. Johnson leads all starting backs with 5.1 yards per carry, and ranks 5th with 626 yards, which would be an impressive stat-line for a feature back, let alone someone splitting time with the NFL's touchdown leader. He's even managed to find the end zone himself 5 times. Once Vince Young returns to this offense, I'm not sure they'll even bother to line up wide receivers any more - just run, run, run, run.

While the position of RB has never been an old man's game, it's never been more clear that rookies can make an impact on their teams, and some can even be the difference maker that pushes their team over the edge.

Flag football drills are essential for helping players understand the fundamentals of the sport in order to prepare for their opponents in game situations. Offense drills are a wonderful way to practice plays and built a strong offense. Here are a few drills that are ideal for quarterback, running backs, and wide receivers.

Open Area:

Open area is a flag football drill for quarterbacks and wide receivers. The purpose of the drill is for a wide receiver to find an open area on the field in order to catch a pass. Like many other offensive flag football drills, this drill illustrates how quarterbacks and wide receivers communicate. The defense should focus on the hips of the ball carrier rather than the shoulders because that is where the flag is.

Setting Up the Open Area Drill:

Designate an area that is ten yards by ten yards, and then divide the players into groups of six, with five players on offense and one player on defense. Next, station four players in the four corners of the area and place a lone receiver and lone defender in the inside of the area. This drill can be used by the whole team by dividing the players into groups of six and performing the drill in separate areas. Each group needs one football.

Outline of the Open Area Drill:

The object of the open area drill is for the quarterback to pass the football around the area until he is able to find an opportunity to make a pass to the wide receiver. The length of the drill is thirty seconds, with six points being awarded for each successful reception, and three points awarded for each interception. Alternating the positions of the players enables the defender and receiver to get some rest and experience the other elements of the drill.

Progression of the Open Area Drill:

As the open area drill progresses you will want to lower the drill time to twenty seconds in length. Then try adding a second defensive back to the area. If the football is intercepted, try putting the quarterback who threw the interception on defense.

Quarterback Toss Drill:

The purpose of the quarterback toss drill is to practice tossing the ball to the running back and to develop proper tosses or pitch techniques. Designate an area twenty yards by twenty yards, and divide teams into even groups. Then line up players opposite one another about five yards apart. One team is the quarterbacks and the other is running backs, and the teams will be alternating.

Outline of the Quarterback Toss Drill:

The quarterbacks will have their backs to the running backs, and the coach will yell out, "SET GO!" Each quarterback then holds the ball in front of them with knees bent and feet apart, as the running back moves right to take the pitch from the quarterback at a distance of three to six yards. Alternate running left and right. It's a good idea to have players move in slow motion the first time you do these flag football drills so they have a clear understanding of the concept.

Coach Tucker is dedicated to seeing his teams succeed in the classroom and on the football field. Visit his website for instant access to his flag football drills and practice plans:

NFL-AFL Football Guide 1968

It's no secret that the Pittsburgh Steelers have a big reputation to live up to. Not only are they the oldest team in the American Football Conference, they also have the most champion wins. They've played in no less than six Super Bowls and have won the Super Bowl not once but five times! Maybe the most memorable thing about the Steelers is that they are the only team in the NFL to go from a sixth seed position to a Super Bowl win. Today, the question on every football fan's mind is, 'Will the Steelers pull off a win this time too?

Ketchup And Mustard

You can't talk about Steelers football without mentioning Heinz Field. Affectionately referred to as the 'Big Ketchup Bottle and the Mustard Palace', Heinz Field has been the home turf for the Steelers since 2001. There has always been a lot of buzz about Heinz Field, and it hasn't always been good. For instance, in 2006 the field was voted as having the worst turf according to a survey by the NFL Players Association - in fact, it has gained a reputation for having one of the most difficult kicking surfaces. However the turf has been improved since then and Green Packers rookie Mason Crosby broke the NFL record for kicking at Heinz Field.

Today, Heinz Field is home to a team that is on the rebound. It's no secret that the Steelers have been working through some rough patches. 2006 was a tough year for the team, as it struggled to improve their 11-5 record and defend their Super Bowl title. The year before had been littered with player injuries, with Steelers Superstar Ben Roethlisberger being hospitalized after a motorcycle accident. But the team have definitely made a comeback; in 2007 they were able to bring their 11-5 record up to an impressive 8-8 tie.

Tomlin - Roethlisberger Magic

If there seems to be some magic in the Steelers, it might be because of two pieces of heavy-duty arsenal that the team has. One is Coach Mike Tomlin, the first ever African-American head coach for the team. Though Tomlin has never played in the NFL, he has been one of the best defensive coaches in the league. He was the defensive coordinator for the Vikings in 2006 and they had the distinction of having the best defense against the run. Expectations are high regarding how Tomlin will lead the Steelers in future games.

The second weapon that the Steelers have is a player called Ben Roethlisberger. Often referred to as Big Ben, he was named Rookie of the Year in 2005. But he's probably best remembered for leading the Steelers to a Super Bowl win, becoming the youngest quarterback to win the Super Bowl in NFL history. Roethlisberger is getting back into gear after his 2006 accident and seems to be in top-notch comeback form. In 2007, he was also named to his first Pro Bowl.

The entire football world is expecting big things from Big Ben, Tomlin and the rest of the team. All eyes are on the Steelers to show some of their magic on the field.

Fantasy football is the best thing to happen to the NFL, and other organisations too! it is really fun and has gotten me back into NFL football as a fan. There are loads of different opportunities for you to play the game whether you're a first time player or an experienced fantasy addict.

Fox Fantasy Football is a complete package which ties together TV, the Internet and powerful free online software. And remember that this coming Summer, UEFA EURO 2008 will have it's own league. It will be free to enter and there are superb prizes for matchday and overall winners. According to PC magazine, the game is the most popular online game in the world.

Yahoo's fantasy football site attracted more people than ESPN's last season but ESPN hopes to close the gap this year. The game is free on a lot of websites, but there are a number in which you will have to make a payment. So what is the fuss all about? Well the game is fun, don't be scared of it and on the right websites, it can win you prizes as well. Fantasy football maybe one of the all time best marketing tools for the NFL. Fantasy Sports (YAHOO), and CDM Fantasy Sports, prizes range from a T-shirt and virtual trophy to $25,000. Overall the game has a good combination of luck, skill, and (the appearance) of strategy.

Playing multiple teams in Fantasy Football is a great and fun way to try out different strategies and compete with different people. This can be done either through submitting more than one team in the same league or having teams in different leagues. For example you could have a team in an NFL Fantasy League and one in the UK Telegraph Fantasy Football League. The only thing better than playing is winning, and the only thing that might be better than winning is having the tools to do so for free so check around on the internet for tools to help you. The only way to win the long marathon is to make sure you, not your competition, is picking up the top free agents, this will help you go a long way to winning the top prizes.

Your passing game starts with the ability of your football wide receivers to get separation from their defenders. It doesn't matter if you have the greatest quarterback in the world if his receivers can't give him a window to throw to.

The first step is to teach your wide receivers how to get off the line. If the defenders are pressing and bumping at the line, the receiver must know how to beat the pressure. Begin by teaching fakes. The most basic is the "head bob". This is where the football wide receiver moves his head to one side while getting his body moving straight or to the other side. A good shoulder fake can spice this move up.

Since defensive backs will eventually pick up on a repeated fake, teach your receivers to mix things up with double-fakes (fake one way, then the other, then move beyond the defensive back).

Football wide receivers must also be taught how to use their hands to gain separation. Teach the "rip" and "swim" techniques. If cutting left, teach them to use the right arm to "rip" up through the cornerback's arms. For the "swim"
technique, teach your wide receivers to bring the inside arm up and over the corner's arms to knock the arms downward.

Once off the line, good route running is obviously an important skill to develop. One way to help your football wide receivers get open is to have them run hard to a specific spot, get control (possibly use a fake here) and make the cut. Plant the foot away from the direction of the cut, make the cut and then
accelerate into the cut. Teach your players the importance of getting the defensive back moving backwards and then cutting away from them.

Besides the straight line charge, you can also have your football receivers use an S-shape weave to get open. Have them run quickly at the defensive back to get close, then "curve" around him to gain separation.

Against man-to-man coverage, learning the art of good cuts and making those cuts at the right time will be extremely important to the success of your wide receivers. Against zone coverage, it's a bit different. Since the defensive backs are defending an area, the football receivers won't need to use their fakes quite as much since they just need to find the holes in the zone.

One often over-looked area where you can give your players an advantage is in your scouting of the opposition. Don't underestimate the importance of exploiting how your players match up to the other guys. Figure out how you can game-plan how to get your best or fastest receiver matched up against the opposition's weakest or slowest defensive back.

Teach your football wide receivers the correct fundamentals for getting open, game-plan your match ups effectively, then sit back and feel the satisfaction of watching a beautifully executed big play win the game for your players.

St Louis Rams NFL Infant Bib and Bootie Set - Infant Large

Even your smallest fan can support the team. Features logo embroidery on the back of creeper; front of bib; and ankle of socks.

Is it height, weight, athleticism? Does a strong arm make the difference, knowledge of the team's offense, practicing the fundamentals? Perhaps it's the offensive line, or the running backs and receivers.

What makes a successful quarterback? I can offer one answer from the collegiate careers of a former college quarterback, Ryan Dinwiddie and current college quarterback Kellen Moore.

I chose these two quarterbacks because I am familiar with their careers.

Ryan Dinwiddie's college career was from 2001 through 2003.
He was 6'1 weighing in at 187lbs.

Dinwiddie finished his collegiate career in 2003 by completing 257 of 411 passes for 4,031 yards. Setting school records in passes, completions, and attempts and he was also set the record for most total yards in a season at 4,074. This includes 28 touchdown passes and only 5 interceptions. That season he also set an NCAA Division 1 FBS career passing efficiency record of 168.9 making him the most prolific passer in D1 history until Colt Brennan broke the record in 2007 with an efficiency rating of 169.25

Kellen Moore's collegiate career is in its infancy, he is a redshirt freshman with 4 games to his credit. He stands 6'0 and weighs 187 lbs.

Kellen's first big test and road game was his 3rd game of the season against the 17th nationally ranked Oregon Ducks in Autzen Stadium. Facing on of this seasons most heralded secondaries, Moore passed the test completing 24 of 36 passes for 386 yards, averaging 10.7 yards per pass for 3 touchdowns and 1 interception.

As of today Scout.com ranks Kellen Moore 6th amongst division 1 quarterbacks, completing 77 of 107 attempts for 1165 yards and a completion percent of 72. Averaging 10.9 yards per completion, Moore has 7 touchdowns two interceptions and current QB rating of 181.27.

Both are undersized, neither possessing the size and athleticism of a Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow or the raw power and speed of a Jake Locker to run past and through would be tacklers.

What made Dinwiddie so good and has freshman quarterback Kellen Moore's star rising?
Both had good coaching, supporting casts and average arm strength. What separated them from the rest? The ability to read the defense.

That is why each quarterback is/was successful at putting up the numbers while shredding defenses. They knew/know what they are looking at and how attack the D. Both are students of the game and each pays special attention to the defense (Dinwiddie is currently playing Canadian Football) studying game film, learning the defense inside and out.

In conclusion quarterbacks that want a successful career, know how to read the defense. They study game film, defensive training videos and have the ability to read what is in front of them, helping them make fewer mistakes, making better decisions and lighting up the opposing defense.

IMPARTIAL JUDGMENT / THE DEAN OF NFL REFEREES CALLS PRO FOOTBALL AS HE SEES IT

The Single Wing Offense is the Hottest Thing In Football Right Now

Single Wing Football is growing by leaps and bounds at the youth level, but how about all the buzz about it now at the High School, College and even NFL level? What's this all about? Sports Illustrated even did a very flattering piece on the Single Wing in their December 2008 Issue.

Why Now?
Much of this newfound attention can probably be attributed to the "TV" factor. Most coaches are copycat innovators, they see something that works, the modify it a bit to what they are doing now or the personnel they have in place and viola a new "Single Wing" series is born. Ten years ago the only Single Wing teams you would ever see on TV were in High School State Championship games on local TV. If you were real lucky you could get a coveted VHS copy of a youth team running the offense in some far away land. Thank goodness those days are gone. Now we have u-tube and message boards where you can see lots of youth and High School teams running the Single Wing offense. But what is more important than the proliferation of successful High School and Youth teams running the Single Wing is the "Saturday-Sunday" factor.

The "Saturday Sunday Effect"
Many coaches, parents and players don't think an offense is "legitimate" until they see their favorite College or NFL teams running the offense. It's a "gimmick" offense until they see it on TV. Todays offensive guru/mad scientist of college football is a man by the name of Urban Meyer. If you look at the interviews he has given about his offense he's an unabashed Single Wing man from his early days at Bowling Green. At Bowling Green he had a player by the name of Josh Harris, a tailback Meyer moved to "QB" in his Senior season. Harris lead the country in scoring for most of that season.

Well now coach Meyer has significantly more talent as the Head coach of the Florida Gators and what is he doing? He's running the Single Wing with his Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow at the controls even resurrecting a few old time Single Wing favorites including the Jump pass.

The Single Wing got huge TV exposure last year with the Heisman race, It came down to two players that were both classic Single Wing Tailbacks, Tim Tebow and Darren McFadden from Arkansas.

Who Has Joined the Mini Band Wagon?
Some other college teams using the Single Wing this year:

Clemson: The call it the "Stallion" with running backs James Davis and CJ Spiller taking snaps.

Missouri; They call it Rucker right and Rucker left, getting the ball to Tight End Martin Rucker. Missouri did the same with Wide Out Jeremy Maclin.

Nebraska- They call it the "Joker" with running back Marlon Lucky taking snaps, He has even thrown a Jump pass for a TD this season.

Pitt: They call it the Wildcat with running back LeSean McCoy taking snaps.

California: Running back Justin Forsett taking direct snaps including 2 for touchdowns against Arizona.

Colorado- Rack-Luck is what they call it, with running back Demetrius Snyder taking direct snaps.

Georgia Tech- Running back Tashard Choice taking direct snaps.

Miami- Running back Graig Cooper taking direct snaps.

Texas A&M- The J-Train, with running back Javorskie Lane taking snaps.

Mississippi- Houston Nutt calls his the "Wild Rebel"

So having just two teams, Florida and Arkansas running the Single Wing in 2008 has spawned an entire flock of college teams utilizing the Single Wing offense at least part of the time just one year later.

Even the NFL Follows
But the biggest proliferator of the Single Wing probably has to go to the former hapless Miami Dolphins. After a 1-15 season last year, the Dolphins are just one game out of the lead in their Division this season. More importantly, the Dolphins unveiled their version of the Single Wing offense to break the New England Patriots 15 game regular season win streak. Putting running back Ronnie Brown at the Single Wing "Quarterback" position and putting Quarterback Pennington in the Slot. Brown ran for 4 touchdowns off of direct snaps and even threw for a touchdown pass against the befuddled Patriot defense.

This didn't turn out to be a one hit wonder, as the Dolphins have continued to use their "Wildcat" series in every game since unveiling it against the mighty Patriots. What did we see in coming weeks out of other NFL teams? More Single Wing series plays from the Ravens, Bears and Jets to name just a few.

The Youth Football Implications
What does this mean to you as a youth coach? The Single Wing is still a niche offense, used by less than 3% of youth football teams across the country. While you still have the advantage of running something most teams don't see very often, expect to see more of it since it has been "blessed" by the Saturday-Sunday phenomenon.

It also means maybe us back-to-the-future Single Wingers were a bit ahead of our time. It also means those that decide to follow will have to deal with fewer of those odd looks from non savvy on-lookers.

Dave Cisar-

With over 15 years of hands-on experience as a youth coach, Dave has developed a detailed systematic approach to developing youth players and teams. His personal teams to using this system to date have won 90% of their games in 5 Different Leagues.

NFL: Official History of Pro Football

When we say American food, what quickly would come in to mind would be those thrown in the Grill and then mashed up with tons of onions, melted with cheese, and then placed between two pieces of bread. Upon biting one of those, one's world suddenly stops and just reflects on the flavors that just entered one's mouth. Yes, we are talking about the good ol' American Cheeseburger. And in the words of renowned chef, Bobby Flay, it doesn't get any more American than this. But in the great city of Philadelphia, they have yet made their own trademark. They have combined the juiciness of that beef, with the flavors of that sweet onion, and the stamp of that melted cheese, with their own version and touch of added flavor. Yes, we are talking about the Philly Cheese Steak. Yes, it is like steak on a bun; and this is exactly just how we like it!

But this is not only what this city is known for. Philadelphia is also known to many top sports teams in America. Whether you are a hockey, baseball, basketball, or Football fan, they got it all! The Philadelphia Flyers are one of the Stanley Cup winners in NHL and have made their mark in the league. The Philadelphia Phillies are one of the Major League contenders who have been also one of the most popular teams. The Philadelphia 76ers is without a doubt, one of the most victorious teams in the history of the NBA. They have been up there and have suddenly become the underdogs now soaring back to where they belong. And when you talk about NFL, there is, without a doubt, that you would be able to raise an eyebrow and deny the Philadelphia Eagles. From its history, this team has already won 3 NFL titles and has made two Super Bowl Appearances (1980 and 2004). It is without a doubt that this team which started at the year 1933, as purchased by Bert Bell, has been a notable force in the brutal competition in the NFL. This gives the people of Philadelphia yet, another reason to be proud of their great city.

If you would notice, almost all of the sports teams of Philadelphia would attach some meaning or connection to flying and soaring high. And yes, this was not only beautifully placed and planted to the names and logos of the teams, and it was lived on and delivered by them as well. Philadelphia should be proud for not only are they participating in the various sports leagues, but they are also very prominent in these. The city should be very proud of their teams as they are able to give pride to the great city of Philadelphia. Whether in the NHL, MLB, NBA, or NFL, they do practically excel in these and are respected in every division. That is not something common to all cities. If politics and city spirit would go together, hey, why not push those cheese steaks to the grill during those games?

Up Downs Conditioning Drill

Out of all of the football conditioning drills up downs is one of the most popular. Players will start this drill by running in place as fast as they can, keeping their knees high as possible. At the coaches signal the players will drop to the ground and do a push up, and then quickly get back up and start running again. Because this drill can be very taxing, it is important to increase the time spent at this slowly over time as the player's strength increases.

Catching the ball high

High passes happen, and as a receiver you need to be ready for something unexpected. As such you need to practice the high passes so that you know to react, here are some basics: The first and most important is that you extend your arms and keep your hands together in a diamond type shape to catch that football. When you try to catch the ball with your body there is a greater chance that it is going to bounce off and cause an incomplete pass. Important to look the catch through and tuck it away. When you practice a high catch you are going to perform it subconsciously on the field, so remember extend the arms, catch and follow through.

Ball handling Drill: "Hot potato"

This drill is used to increase player's ball handling skills on the field. Players will move the football from one hand to another hand around differing parts of their body. The drill starts by having players hold the football above their head and start to pass it around their head, moving to the chest, under the arms, around the waist, knees, and completing with passing it through the legs.

The best thing that a coach can do is call out body parts that the players will have to move the ball around, or even calling a reverse command were the players will need to change the direction of the football. The reverse option is an important command as it will keep the players on their toes and focuses on concentration and ball handling.

We recommend that you end this drill by doing several football drops. For example, the player drops the ball and retrieves it quickly. To further increase pickup skills have your players change up the hands that they are using so that both their strong and weak hands are developed.

Practice can help turnovers

The faster your defense is at getting the ball back into the offensive's hands the more likely you are to win a game. Forcing a fumble is one of the quickest ways that you can turn the tides and retain possession of the football. A great way to practice is have two players line up, one as the defense, the other with the football as the offense. The defender will practice stripping the ball by bringing his hands up quickly with a clenched fist to grab the opponent and as he does so to aim to knock out the football. Start the drill slowly, and reward for a strong tackle that affectively tackles and makes an attack to dislodge the offensive players grip on the ball.

Football cleats feature soles fitted with studs or cleats, which provide the user with enough traction and extra stability over slippery or hard surfaces. An extra cleat found at the center toe also allows for quicker starts and takeoffs. Compared to other cleats, football cleats have outsoles that are more aggressive, allowing the feet to absorb high-impact landings with a level of force reaching up to about seven or eight times the weight of the user.

Want to learn how to make football cleats? Depending on what you prefer, they may be made from leather or synthetic materials. Genuine leather may be more expensive but they last longer and offer excellent wear, while middle-end cleats may use both leather and synthetic materials, with the synthetic parts serving as reinforcements to areas that are used often like the sole. Understanding the different kinds of cleats may also help you in learning how to make football cleats.

Kinds of football cleats

Some of the kinds you can consider as you learn how to make football cleats include molded and detachable football cleats. Molded are attached permanently to the soles of the shoes. They are commonly found on turf shoes that use rubber cleats with mildew for better traction and spring on hardened turf fields. Detachable football cleats, on the other hand, can be replaced with cleats of other styles. They easily snap off during replacement and may be screwed in during installation. Since the cleats can be removed and re-attached, these are ideal for people who play on different surfaces, although they still work best on grass fields. Longer studs are good for grassy fields while shorter studs do good work on dry surfaces.

A quick tip

Padding is good because it cushions your feet from impact. However, be careful of paddings that are too thick since they reduce how much you feel of the ground, possibly affecting your performance in a game.

Tackling is fundamental to football, and should receive proper attention at practices. Tackling can be fun and exhilarating, but done improperly and it can be dangerous. Some points to remember when tackling:

First is to cut off your opponent by placing yourself directly in front of them. Plant your cleats in the grass squarely in front and in the middle, bisecting the player in half. At the same time you want to bring your arms back in anticipation for the next phase.

Second, thrust your other foot again squarely in front of your opponent and with all the momentum that you have brought to the tackle grab your opponent. At this point you are well planted in front and your head should be in direct contact. Never, ever, ever tackle with the top of your head down, keep it up and square against your opponent. A great way to insure that you are in the right position is to practice touching your facemask to the football of the opposing player.

Third, throw your hips up and hard as you drive the offensive player backwards. The more momentum that you bring to the table on steps two and three the more effective your speed will be in this last step.

Forcing the Fumble

The faster your defense is at getting the ball back into the offensive's hands the more likely you are to win a game. Forcing a fumble is one of the quickest ways that you can turn the tides and retain possession of the football. Practice dislodging the football on the field in pairs of players. The defender will practice stripping the ball by bringing his hands up quickly with a clenched fist to grab the opponent and as he does so to aim to knock out the football. This drill is most effective if you start it slow focusing on the motions needed to be effective, and then speed up over time.

Basics to football hand offs

Whether you are a quarterback, running back, or a player that at anytime will receive a hand off you need to realize the basics of a great hand off. We will explain this in a common scenario between a quarterback and a running back. A running back at the start of a hand off should give the quarterback a target by opening up his arms that are in front of his chest enough to allow about one and a half footballs in. When the running back receives the football he clamps down both arms hard on the football to protect it. As the running back leaves from the handoff he needs to stay low to react quickly and again to protect the ball.

Building your muscles and endurance through Weightlifting

Lifting weights is a fundamental requirement to improve your football skills. Not only will it add muscle to your body and increase your strength, it will also help you to increase your maximum power. Maximum power is different from strength because it is the power that you exert on the field during a play. This exertion will help you as a football player to execute your skills on the field with speed and force. As you continue in your weightlifting program, we highly recommend that you get a personal coach to push you in your goals, teach you proper techniques, and ensure that you are doing the right work for your position.

Making and effective Angle Tackle

It is a great idea to practice angle tackles with your defense because not all tackles are made with the opponent right in front of you. Set up a simple drill with two players, on as the offense with the ball running in a straight line, the other as the defender running towards him at some angle. As the opponent comes toward the defender he will need to adjust his body position and shorten the angle, put his foot in front of the opponent, and make sure that he put his head in front of the opponent. The defender follows through with the tackle by straightening his knees in a lunging type motion, wrapping his arms around the ball carrier to pull him down to the ground or push him off sides.

Learning the Plays from the Playbook

Every football team will have certain plays. It will be essential to learn your part in that play to benefit yourself, and the whole team. In order to start learning a play, make sure that you first pay attention to the instructions when they are given. A lot of habits can form in the first couple of practice plays, for this sake it is a good idea to take them slow at the start. As always, when learning a new play don't hesitate to ask for individual help to master the techniques needed. The last helpful hint that we want you to learn is the power of visualization. Go over the plays in your mind, over and over again. Make your mind work them out and your muscles memorize them even when you sleep

Drive Block

When talking about the fundamentals of a great offense or defense, you have to know what a good driving and blocking techniques are. The drive block is the most fundamental and should be practiced often. It is a simple yet effective way to move your opponent. The first step of this block is the scrimmage alignment, in order to drive to the right or left this basic block will push your opponent in the way that they are aligned, so if they are aligned to the right the drive will push them to the right. When executing this block start with your play side foot, meaning if the play is on the right side of you it will be your right foot. Connect hard against your opponent, bring your other foot into play and continue to drive in the aligned direction.

Some fundamentals of ball security

A team that prevents fumbles is a team that wins. Nothing is worse for your offensive team then turning it over carelessly to the other team in a fumble. Basic ball security can be broken down into four steps. The first point is the claw, meaning that your fingers are wrapped over the tip of the football. Second, wrap your forearm completely around the football. The third point is securing the other point of the football with your bicep making sure that it is right up against it. Fourth, pull the football up and tight against your ribcage closing the gap on the football from all four sides. Practice holding the football and having defensive players try and knock out the football by any means possible. By reducing the risk of a fumble you will increase the offensive strength in effectively driving across the field and scoring touchdowns.
